What Is It?

The TopspinPro is a portable tennis training aid that can be used anywhere. It was specifically designed to help people master topspin groundstrokes but is also commonly used when players work on technique and footwork generally as well as the kick serve.

Screen Guides

The mesh screen panels create a 75 degree plane behind the ball that forces you to make contact with exactly the same racket-face angle as the pros.

Spinning Ball

The ball is two-toned and mounted on a spindle to help you see & feel how to "brush" the ball, not hit it. The spring-loaded ball arm returns to the original position after each shot.

Collapsible Base

The height-adjustable tripod provides the perfect combination of a sturdy base that can withstand the impact of heavy shots while also allowing you to set up, or pack away in 1 minute.

How It Works

Master the Racket-Face Angle the Pros Use

The TopspinPro has been designed to force what is known as the "windshield wiper" motion. Watch the pros in slo-mo and you'll see how they keep the racket-face tilted forward by 10-15 degrees throughout the contact zone. This angle and the steep upwards swing path are the crucial components for serious topspin.

Feel What It's Like to "Brush" the Ball

The key difference between hitting with topspin and hitting flat shots is how you make contact. For topspin you have to brush up the back of the ball. This hi-tech gadget promises to teach one of the game's most elusive techniques using a tennis ball suspended on three legs. Now found in Virgin Active gyms as well as Sir Richard Branson's tennis courts in Necker Island, the Topspin proved a surprise hit last summer, selling 100 units by the time Novak Djokovic had lifted the trophy.

Nine out of every 10 shots in tennis is hit with topspin. It's the stroke that allows you to pummel the ball and still find the court, and a coaching fundamental. It's also one of the trickiest techniques to teach to beginners. Phillip Hofmeyr wants to change all that.

At first I thought it was a gimmick but once we practised on it I realised it was good tool. A lot of children do really struggle to get topspin or if you're older player just starting out - it's very helpful.
